Five Things You Can Never See in Your Dreams
SadaNews - No matter how strange your dreams are, from flying over cities to escaping an unexpected exam, there are certain details that are completely absent from the world of sleep.
Researchers confirmed that there are five things that hardly ever appear in dreams, despite being an essential part of our daily lives, according to a report published by the British "Daily Mail".
Smartphones
For example, the smartphones that we use for hours daily hardly appear in dreams, as a study of 16,000 dreams reveals that phones show up in only 3% of women's dreams and 2% of men's dreams.
This is because dreams evolved to simulate threats, not modern technology.
Dr. Kelly Bulkeley, a dream researcher and director of the sleep and dreams database, said, "In dreams, our minds operate in a more fluid, emotional, and associative manner. On the other hand, our ability to focus and the short-term skills needed for reading, counting, and using a computer decrease."
Although the content of our dreams usually reflects details of our daily lives, studies show that smartphones hardly appear in dreams at all.
Written Texts, Smells, and Tastes
The issue extends beyond phones; the sleeping mind struggles to produce written texts, numbers, and even smells and tastes, which constitute a very small portion of dream content.
Scientists attribute this to the reduced activity of the language and fine-sensory centers during the rapid eye movement (REM) stage, where most dreams cluster.
Reflection in the Mirror
As for the reflection in the mirror, it has a completely different story. While it is possible to see a mirror in a dream, your image is often distorted or radically different; you might see yourself at another age, or with strange features, or even as someone entirely different.
Researchers clarify that dreams are not a carbon copy of the waking world. They are a stage charged with emotion, relying on creativity and symbolism, not on minute details.
This is why what we see in dreams remains a separate world, filled with strangeness… and devoid of some of the simplest details of our daily lives.
